An amalgam filling, often called a "silver filling" due to its metallic appearance, is a type of dental restoration used to fill cavities caused by tooth decay. Although it has been a common filling material for over 150 years it is now being phased out due to the materials used, therefore we are unlikely to deem it a suitable treatment going forward. Please read our article for full details about amalgam fillings. Visit our article HERE!(https://www.eastgatedental.org.uk/post/composite-vs-amalgam-fillings-unveiling-the-benefits-of-composite)

We recommend bringing your child for their first dental appointment from one year old onwards, or as soon as their first teeth begin to emerge. Early dental visits help familiarise them with the dental environment and allow us to provide important preventative care and advice from a young age.
A dental implant is a small, high-grade titanium post that acts as a replacement for a tooth root. It is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over a few months. Once healed, a custom-made crown is attached, providing a permanent, natural-looking solution for missing teeth.
Most adults with good general health and healthy gums are candidates for implants. The primary requirement is having enough bone density in the jaw to support the post. During your consultation at Eastgate Dental, we use advanced imaging to assess your bone health and create a bespoke treatment plan.
The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthetic, meaning you should not feel pain during the treatment. Most patients report that the discomfort after the procedure is similar to a simple extraction and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
With proper care and regular check-ups at our Aberystwyth clinic, dental implants are designed to be a lifelong solution. They cannot develop cavities, but maintaining gum health through brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings is essential for their long-term success.
The cost of dental implants varies depending on the number of teeth being replaced and whether any preparatory work (like bone grafting) is required. We provide a transparent, written estimate after your initial consultation and offer monthly payment plans to help make your treatment more affordable.
At Eastgate Dental, we use professional-grade whitening gels that are significantly more effective than over-the-counter kits. The active ingredients gently penetrate the tooth enamel to break down deep-set stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine, or smoking, restoring your teeth to their natural whiteness.
Yes. When performed under the supervision of a dental professional, teeth whitening is a safe, non-invasive treatment. Unlike some "DIY" or high-street kits that can be abrasive and damage enamel, our prescribed treatments are pH-balanced to protect your tooth structure.
Some patients experience temporary sensitivity during the treatment process. However, we use modern whitening systems designed to minimize discomfort. We can also provide desensitizing gels and tailor the treatment duration to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
The longevity of your results depends on your lifestyle. Typically, the effects can last from 6 months to 2 years. To maintain your bright smile, we recommend occasional "top-up" treatments and regular visits to our hygienist for professional cleaning.
If you are registered with us and experiencing severe pain, swelling, or a knocked-out tooth, contact Eastgate Dental immediately. We will try our best to ensure you are seen as quickly as possible.
